Referrals to the Survival Skills Program can be made by community colleges, universities, high schools, churches, councils, correctional facilities, county extension service, WorkFirst programs, self-help agencies, individuals and probation officers. In order to be eligible to apply for education funding, recipients must meet the eligibility requirements of the New Choices Program.
The purpose of New Choices is to offer services to men and women in crisis to work toward reducing economic burdens by expanding opportunities in employment and education.
Survival Skills offers a series of ten classes geared to enhancing personal and economic empowerment. These skills enable better money management, household and health skills, and child behavior and education. Gain confidence needed to take charge and move toward independence.
Class topics include: Assertiveness, Personal Health, Nutrition, Money Management, Child Management, Self Advocacy, Legal Rights, Coping with Crisis, Community Resources and Employment Re-Entry.
